Abstract. The findings concerning usefulness of shrubs of smoke-tree to biological reclamation of ash landfills are presented in this paper. The scientific research was carried out during three years, on the model of reclamation of ashes and organic wastes on grounds of the ZE “Dolna Odra” S.A. The biomass increase of shrubs in dependence of methods of reclamation were examined. The initial findings, received in the experiment, indicated that the research should be continued.
Key words:

The smoke-tree (Cotinus coggygria) growth on substratum from burner wastes
Summary
The burner wastes have a specific physical and chemical property, especially alkaline reaction (pH 9-12). The biological reclamation of ash landfills is hard in connection with it. The small habitat requirements and alkaline resistance of smoke-tree suggest that shrubs of this species are helpful in reclamation of those landfills. The scientific research was carried out, during 2004-2006 years, on two-factors experiment: methods of ashes preparation (two methods) and use of arable layers (five type). Growth, diameter and number of shoots were examined.
The organic matter used to arable layers had an important influence on growth of biomass of smoke-tree. Substratum from ash fertilizing NPK and cover made from lowmoor peat and ash or from bark, sand, compost and digested sludge were best for growing the examined shrubs. Shrubs of smoke-tree are helpful to reclamation of burner wastes, as the research results imply.
